Yasuhiro Onishi completed his BA in Fine Art (Painting) at Wimbledon College of Art in 2010 and was subsequently selected for ‘The Catlin Guide 2011: New Artists in the UK’. His degree show collection was inspired by popular culture – newspaper headlines and found photographs – but interspersed with shadowy characters and Kafkaesque objects.
Recent small-scale portraits display a playful twist on the style of the old masters with references spanning regal portraiture to medieval plague doctors.
